In the center of the country the limestone massif of the Extremadura is composed by 2 great mountains; the mountain “Serra de Aire” and “Serra dos Candeeiros” where there are numerous underground water courses that they gave rise to numerous caverns although most of them are not exploited and open to the public.

On this tour we will make a visit to 3 different caves in these two mountains, distant between them, with different characteristics and older than 80,000 years that were only discovered by chance in the second half of the 20th century.

Due to the natural beauty that you will be confronted, i recommend very much this excursion to the whole type of people, from children in school age even to adults of advanced age.

So, we will visit the "Grutas da Moeda" (Caves of the Coin) with a descent till 45m of depth and a visitable distance of 350m, the "Grutas de Mira de Aire" (Caves of Sight of Aire) that make part of a great set of caves and galleries with an extension of more than 11km and with a descent till 110m of depth and a visitable distance of 650m and the "Grutas de Santo António" (Caves of Saint António) with a descent till 45m of depth and a visitable area of 6.000m2.

Caves composed by chambers and uneven corridors, passed by small courses of water and natural lakes totally stuffed of stalactites and stalagmites, columns, flags and curtains, which constitute marvelous works created by the nature, which invite us to dive into an adventure and in a natural imaginary of figures, which, adults and children will try to unveil.

The temperature inside the caves remain stable between 16ºC and 18ºC during all year, so, i recommend you take a jacket or sweater and wear comfortable closed shoes.

In the city of Fátima, we go to the sacred place for all the believers of whole world, where the 3 little shepherds in the beginning of the 20th century communicated with the Virgin Mary who told them the 3 secrets of Fátima besides the called "Sun Dance" in one of the appearances which was seen by about 70.000 people.

In the sanctuary, who will want, will be able to follow the path of the pilgrims, to pray or just put some votive candles.

Thereafter, we will go to the surprising “Grutas da Moeda” (Caves of the Coin), natural caves located in the mountain Serra de Aire and integrated in the limestone massif of the Extremadura, where we will do a descent till 45m from depth in a visitable distance of 350m.

Along the cavernous course, composed by corridors, uneven chambers, small lakes of natural water, totally stuffed of stalactites, stalagmites, columns, flags and curtains, extraordinary works of the nature, which invite us to dive into an adventure and in a natural imaginary of figures, which, adults and children will try to unveil.

After we learned something else and enjoy the natural beauty of these caves, we will be invited to taste a very interesting local liquor "Abafadinho da Moeda" and savouring a homemade cookie.
